Strongest similarity (2e-94) to Neisseria meningitidis IRON-REGULATED PROTEIN FRPC (sp|P55127|FRPC_NEIME), also known as cytotoxin RTX homolog frpC (gi|420920|pir||S35027). There are also BLAST hits to the FRPA protein of the same organism (9e-72, sp|P55126|FRPA_NEIME) and to two proteins of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae: RTX protein (4e-72, gb|AAD01698.1| (AF021919)) and ApxIVA var3 (9e-62, gb|AAD01905.1| (AF030511)) which are similar to N. meningitidis FRPC protein. There are several other good BLAST hits to the final half of this CDS which are mainly adenylate cyclase hemolysins of different organisms.The main reason for these matches may be the high number of repetitive glycine-rich regions which are probably involved in Calcium binding as pointed by the comments for the N. meningitidis FRPC protein:[FUNCTION] MAY PARTICIPATE IN THE PATHOGENESIS OF MENINGOCOCCAL DISEASE.[SUBCELLULAR LOCATION] OUTER-MEMBRANE ASSOCIATED AND SECRETED.[DOMAIN] THE GLY-RICH REGION IS PROBABLY INVOLVED IN BINDING CALCIUM, WHICH IS REQUIRED FOR TARGET CELL-BINDING OR CYTOLYTIC ACTIVITY.[SIMILARITY] TO OTHER HEMOLYSINS OF THE RTX FAMILY (REPEAT IN THE STRUCTURAL TOXIN).
